Important update: The Support at home program

Letter from Department of Health & Aged Care

Important Update for Home Care Package Clients
The Department of Health and Aged Care has recently mailed important letters to all Home Care Package clients. These letters provide crucial information about the upcoming transition to the new Support at Home program, which will take effect on 1 July 2025. Here are the key points from the letters:

Overview of Support at Home
Purpose: The new program aims to help you remain independent in your home and community for longer.

Services: You will have access to services, products, equipment, and home modifications similar to the current Home Care Packages program. The services you receive will be based on your assessment, approval, and budget.

New Funding Pathways
Restorative Care Pathway: Increased funding from 8 weeks to 12 weeks, focusing on allied health to build strengths and capabilities.

End-of-Life Pathway: Higher level of care for those at the end of life.

Assistive Technology and Home Modification: Dedicated funding so you don’t have to use your regular home care budget for these services.

Budget Management
Your annual budget will be managed quarterly.
Any unspent funds can be carried over to the next quarter, with a maximum carryover of $1,000 or 10% (whichever is greater).

Next Steps
Provider Contact: Before 1 July 2025, your provider will contact you to review your care plan, advise you of new pricing, and prepare a new service agreement.

Pricing Protections: The government has put protections in place to ensure prices are reasonable and transparent.

Additional Information
Co-Contributions: Services Australia will inform you about any co-contributions you may need to make. They may request your income and asset information.

Checklist: A checklist is included to help you prepare for the transition to Support at Home.
