The Support at Home Program and What It Means for Harmony Homecare Families

At Harmony Homecare, we are always committed to providing the best possible support to our clients. As Australia’s population ages, the government is reforming in-home aged care to better meet the needs of older Australians. The new Support at Home program, launching on 1 July 2025, will replace the Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme, with the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) transitioning by 1 July 2027.

What is the Support at Home Program?

The Support at Home program aims to simplify and improve access to in-home aged care services. By consolidating multiple existing programs, the goal is to reduce confusion, streamline services, and offer more flexible, personalized care options for older Australians.

Key Features of the Support at Home Program

  • Simplified Access: The Support at Home program will offer a single point of access for all in-home care services. This means it will be easier for you to find the right support without dealing with multiple programs.
  • Greater Flexibility: With the new system, you’ll have more options to tailor your care plan to fit your unique needs, making sure your loved ones receive the services that best meet their preferences.
  • Improved Quality of Care: The program will ensure higher standards of care with stronger oversight, more training for caregivers, and a greater focus on quality and safety.
  • Personalised Support Plans: Each person receiving care will have a support plan that is specifically designed for their needs and goals. These plans will be regularly reviewed to ensure they’re always aligned with your changing circumstances.
  • More Efficient Use of Resources: By combining existing programs, the government aims to reduce unnecessary administration costs, meaning more funding will go directly into frontline services and support.

What Does This Mean for Harmony Homecare Clients?

  • Current Clients: If you’re receiving care under the old programs, you’ll be transitioned to the new system without disruption.
  • New Clients: Starting July 2025, all new applicants will apply through Support at Home, streamlining the process.
  • Service Providers: Harmony Homecare will adapt to the new system’s standards to ensure continued high-quality care.
