Hi, my name is Sylvester and I am a Disability Support Worker.I have been working with Harmony Homecare for about five years and I dare say that I am enjoying it.
What special skills do you believe you bring to your job?
“Some of my special skills include my ability to listen to my clients and understand their needs. I also have the ability to communicate effectively with my clients which does not only make my clients’ happy but also makes my job easier.”
What brought you to support work?
“I have a passion for caring for people, especially those with needs. I am an empathic person; it brings me joy and fulfilment when the people I support are happy and satisfied with the little contribution of my support. And yes, the pay is very good too. So, it’s like doing what I love and getting paid for it.”
What are your favourite hobbies?
“My number one hobby these days is cooking. I like trying out cuisine from other parts of the world, like South America and Asian cuisine. I like going out for a walk, and I also enjoy watching a movie or two every now and then.”
What do you do for your own wellbeing?
“I like to go out for a walk a couple of times a week. I exercise though not regularlyenough. I try to eat healthily as much as I can. Recently I have started practising Mindfulness.”
What do you like about working for Harmony?
“Harmony homecare is like a family, a team where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued. There is a high standard of care set at Harmony that makes the relationship between support workers and clients an admirable one.”
